Testing
The global standard for web accessibility is the W3C Web Content
Accessibility Guidelines, and at Samrays we have considerable
experience of testing to this standard.
The Disability Discrimination Act 1994 makes it unlawful to provide
goods, services and facilities that are not as equally accessible to
people with disabilities as those without. The disabilities covered
are; visual, hearing, motor and cognitive. Each particular
disability requires an approach that ensures inclusion and refers to
software, including websites. Samrays is able to carry out testing
that incorporates the needs of these disabilities and can also
provide advice at the design stage of your software development to
help avoid possible infringements of the law.
The actual test process includes running a selection of different
tests to encompass each of the different requirements. Such tests
can include checking accessibility against the WC3 guidelines (Level
A, AA and AAA) using Bobby, a software accessibility checking tool;
the use of other software tools such as screen readers like JAWS;
manual checks; CSS Validation and HTML Validation. All of these
different approaches contribute to a complete picture of the
accessibility issues associated with your software and its
conformance to them.
